Hybrid Multi-mode/Corrugated C-Band Horn


Figure 1 shows a C-band corrugated horn with an oversized throat section that can support both propagating TE11 and TM11 modes in the transmit(Tx) band. The lengths and radii of the cylindrical segments of the throat section together with the depths of the corrugations have been optimised to yield good crosspolarisation in both transmit(Tx) and receive(Rx) bands. The performance may degrade significantly in between the Tx and Rx bands but such a horn can be machined with ease as no ring-loaded or narrow corrugations are present.

Predicted far-field patterns in Rx at 3.6 GHz and 4.2 GHz are given in Figure 2, Figure 3. Predicted far-field patterns in Tx at 5.85 GHz and 6.425 GHz are given in Figure 4, Figure 5.
